Meet Esther 1837, an American Quaker girl living in the wilderness of Ohio. She is the fourth girl in the First Stitches Series. Her stitching journey will help us create a doll quilt using the proximate methods and materials from the 19th century.

Esther 1837 Doll Quilt Kit Includes:

  • Esther 1837 Doll Quilt Pattern.  The pattern includes detailed directions to create the doll quilt using the option of three different methods; hand piecing, English Paper Piecing and a few tips if you decide to use machine piecing. A supply list to assist you in creating  the larger version of the quilt, 50  States & Stars is also included in this pattern.   ( The tracible inking lettering and embellishments for the 50 States and Stars templates is sold separately as a printed booklet.)
  • All fabric to make the doll quilt. Additional fabric to create the larger version, 50 States and Stars, can be accessed at a variety of quilt shops. One of my favorites is Reproduction fabrics https://www.reproductionfabrics.com/    The fabric amounts needed to create 50 States & Stars are listed at the end of the doll quilt pattern.
  • Printed tracible copy of Female Ancestor names for inking
  • Signatures in Time -Inking Directions (PDF)
  • 1 – freezer paper sheet
  • 1 – black Pigma pen

A booklet containing tracing sheets and directions to transfer words for the 50 States and embellishments onto your quilt blocks is available and  sold separately.

This adorable doll quilt introduces the skills of using small pieces and understanding color value.

You can use contemporary hand piecing methods, English Paper Piecing methods or machine piecing to complete this quilt.

Materials for the contemporary hand piecing and English Paper Piecing options are available as individual add on kits on my website.
