Description

This is the most important item in a work basket. These delightful shears were commissioned by me and crafted by a small European firm whose fine workmanship is based on the traditional techniques used by cutlers in the 19th century. Cutlers were the first scissor makers. The small workshop where they were crafted is devoted to hand assembly, hand finishing and hand sharpening. Each pair is engraved with the logo “First Stitches”. I want you to be mindful of your first stitches as you work. These shears are exclusive to Susan Standley Stitch in Time. The weight is intentional as you use the shears in a manner that requires the back of the scissor to glide along the table as you cut. This is designed to help steady your hand and is the traditional method for cutting fabric on a flat surface. The 7″ shown here is a good starting size if you are outfitting a young girl’s first work basket. An 8″ size is sold separately if you want more than one size to differentiate function. For example, one pair for cotton and another for linen or wool.

If you are ordering smaller items we will try to combine shipping where possible and may be able to issue a refund after checkout.
