The rich browns in this quilt can be traced back to fabrics that were popular and available during the last quarter of the 19th century. The design is simple and geometric which is also a clue. The pop of poison green in the center makes a statement as does the “X” constructed from shirtings. What is particularly striking about this quilt is the multitude of pieced patches that have been used to comprise several of the squares. It is a study in economy of materials!!!The quilt is hand pieced and the borders are torn from the yardage available and mitered, not measured, leaving a wavy edge.
