Description

I am thrilled to be able to share the “First Stitches – Corliss 1870, Introduction to English Paper Piecing Kit” and tutorial with you. A tutorial will be available on March 27th, 2024 on my YouTube Channel “Susan Standley Stitch in Time” to guide you through the process. I hope you will enjoy this experience as we begin to connect with Corliss 1870, one of our new girls for our First Stitches experiences!

If this is your first time trying English Paper Piecing, be kind to yourself!!! The tutorial is designed to make you a success. The kit offers supplies to make two English Paper Pieced flowers so you can see your progress from the first flower to the second. In the tutorial you will learn two stitches, the Basting Stitch and the Ladder Stitch.

The steps to complete your flower include:

1 – Cut the fabric

2 – Fold the fabric

3 – Baste the fabric

4 – Join the hexagons together

5 – Press

6 – Remove Paper

Pre-folding the fabric gives you a level of precision just like Mary 1840 did with her first stitches patchwork quilt. The fabrics for the kit are all 19th century reproductions. This is a gateway to a whole range of fun and beautiful hand piecing.

This kit contains:

Papers and pre-cut fabrics to make two hexagon flowers (fabrics are a “grab bag” and do not repeat. Each set contains one center and six petals that may be the same fabric or a mix).

1 – #9 Milliner’s Needle

1 – Binding Clip

Things to have on hand:

Glue stick

Thread

Scissors

Thimble

Hole Punch

Tutorial available on my YouTube channel “Susan Standley Stitch in Time”. Additional information can be found in Episode #47. Please share your progress on: #first_stitchesEPP
